Hi ya

Some advice if possible

I went for an interview on thursday morning, i havent heard back yet, but they said they wanted to make a decision either later that day or following day which would be last friday.

I have only spoken to them on the phone.

Should i just accept that I havent got the job at this point ? Advice appreciated.

Thank you

It could be that there have been delays, especially as it is so close to Christmas. I thought I hadn't got the job as didn't hear back at the right timescale, but I've been working there happily for over a year now, so don't give up!

Send an email to say thanks for the interview, happy to answer any other questions they may have, just wanted to follow up as they mentioned making a decision by X date, etc.

I had an internal job interview at mid morning on a Thursday,
By Friday lunch- time I was being chased to accept. Later find out I was’t first choice but by the by.

If I hadn’t answered the email where would the cards lay.
No idea.

@lostatsea999 congrats! But this isnt the same situation, i havent heard anything.

Great advice about the prompt. I think I would assume you haven't got it for your own ability to move on, BUT do this though. There's often some to-ing and fro-ing that goes on internally (and sometimes even externally with their 1st choice, and there is no problem with being their second) all can take time, especially at this time of year, people off etc. They would be very rude not to answer a follow up prompt (but admittedly, in their own time) and if they didn't, you probably dodged a bullet anyway, depending on the type of job / company.

Yes @SoUncertain as its xmas eve tomorrow i will send an email on monday following up, (allowing for xmas day/boxing day) will have been over a week since the interview. Yeah my partner said something similar today that I probs dodged a bullet, if they do just ghost interviewees.

They are most likely waiting for their chosen candidate to confirm. Sorry

golemmings · 24/12/2025 09:50

I'm still waiting to hear from a company. I think after 19 years they've made their feelings pretty clear.

SheepShankers · 24/12/2025 09:57

It’s pretty rubbish when companies do that, especially when you’ve gone to the effort of preparing for the interview etc.

In my most recent job, there were reasons why they couldn’t come back to me in the time frame they hoped. (I think another candidate had legitimate reasons to delay her interview, and they wanted to give her a fair chance) But in that scenario I was contacted to let me know that there would be a delay and given a new date (and time) when I would get a further phone call.

I hope you get positive news soon, otherwise I’m sure you’ve dodged a bullet

Sunshinemummy2023 · 24/12/2025 10:05

Yes i thought that may be the case too @Bufftailed

@SheepShankers yeah im just so disappointed in them that they treat candidates badly, its a charity that supports peoples wellbeing, so couldnt be more ironic doing this to someone at christmas.

Yes thats how i would expect it to be too, i mean it takes 2 seconds to send an email.

Thank you though, guess it helps to hear what others think i should just move on from it.

It’s too early to assume you didn’t get it.
Delays happen a lot. Silence doesn’t mean no.
If you don’t hear back by Monday, a polite follow up is okay.

Sunshinemummy2023 · 24/12/2025 10:52

@ADHDMumHere thank you, yes could be that. I guess im panicing a bit. Im due to start a masters course part time in janauary. I was working on a project as a paid facilitator for the last 2.5 years, but the funding got pulled for the project a month before chrisstmas and all staff let go. Its frustrating becasue what we were working on was really successful and won two awards but all that hard work means nothing right now as I have no job. Ive signed up to a teaching agency (to get substitute work on a temp basis in january till i get something else) and have managed to get facilitating work one day a week with another company long term but really need this other job too.

At my work it’s not unknown to call people to offer them a job even a week afterwards. The first choice candidate doesn’t always accept straight away and there can sometimes be an extended period of salary negotiation and letting them think about it. If they are moving a whole family country especially it can be a big decision that they need to weigh up against the final offered salary. It really sucks to be on the waiting end of that though!

Sunshinemummy2023 · 24/12/2025 12:00

Thanks @TheendofmrY at this point i will just leave it and try to focus on applying for a few more jobs over next weekend. Will give myself a break from it over xmas day and boxing day. I do have another job interview on 12th jan things could be worse

The current job market is such that I think the best approach is apply then forget and move on, or interview then move on. What I mean is do not hang around waiting on someone's decision which you may never get informed of. You may miss other opportunities and deadlines. A lot of companies now state up front 'Due to the anticipated volume of applications you will only hear if moving to the next stage recruitment stage'

Are you sure they're open on Monday?

To be fair, charities tend to be chronically understaffed, and the period coming up to Christmas is probably a particularly busy one for employees as volunteers tend to be busy with their own families.

Aplstrudl · 27/12/2025 11:04

If the interview was on 18th they may have closed for Christmas on 19th so I wouldn’t expect to hear until next week. Or maybe there’s sickness so the outcome is delayed.

Sunshinemummy2023 · 27/12/2025 11:13

Yes i was surprised when they sais they would make a decision @Aplstrudl that quickly given time of year especially but the timeline was from them. I will have a think what to do, i have another interview 2nd week of jan so may just concentrate on that, i have to do a lot of prep for it
