Would I be better trying to work for myself in these circumstances?

I have not worked due to ill health for 15 years now. I am starting a new treatment soon which is claimed to really help people with my condition. I have a 1st class degree and a masters degree in an arts subject. I am now almost 50. I don't receive any benefits as my DH earns over the threshold.

I feel like I will really struggle to get a job as even fit healthy young people or people with loads of experience are struggling and wondered if I should put more effort into trying to work for myself? I don't think I could cope well with working in retail or a call centre as while I hope to feel better soon I will still need to control my environment for the sake of my health.

Definitely! My YouTube feed has many women doing the same. If you’re a self-starter and you can organise yourself it’s worth giving it a go.

I think you really need to wait and see how you are after this new treatment. It’s impossible at the moment to know what you may or may not to be capable of managing in as few months time.

Whatever you do you probably want to start very small and build up as your health improves, so if you’ve got skills
where you can work for yourself to allow you to start small then that might be ideal in the first instance to ease you back in.
Good luck
