Nine weeks after the closing date for a job and I get offered an interview!

Isn't this a little on the late side? I was hoping beyond hope I'd be interviewed as I liked the sound of the job, but now my circumstances have changed and I can no longer attend! They've sent me a second reminder asking if I'd attend, like they're pushing me, when I waited and waited weeks ago! Why do they leave it so long to shortlist?

Explain you can’t make that date and ask if you can attend a different day?

My guess would be that they gave the job to somebody who has now let them down, and they are frantically trying to find someone else.

Was the date set?

They probably thought you'd keep it free if you really want a job sometimes it is a long wait for them to get a panel together to look at applications

Maybe they did a first round of interviews and nobody was appointable so they have gone back to the rest of the applications rather than readvertise.

I agree. It seems very unlikely you were the first choice after two months without hearing anything.

I would send apologies and see if they can arrange an alternative date, if you still want the job that is.

I've withdrawn the application. Upon reflection, it was too far to travel to anyway.
Thank you all for your replies 😊
