Want to do something different

I do freelance marketing and website design and have one great client who I do website, social media marketing, and other online and offline marketing. This is good work but I'm not fulfilled by it anymore, it's great that my client trusts me to do what I want but I also don't get any recognition. They don't read my emails or reports etc. it's easy money in a way but also not rewarding.

I started to build up other clients but in all honesty I didn't enjoy it and went back to just having this one client as they are easy to work with. I like the design aspect of what I do - designing leaflets, business cards, social media posts, mailshots etc but the actual posting, engaging and managing I don't anymore. I much prefer traditional marketing such as magazine advert designs etc.

I would like to earn a bit more money but I'm at a loss of what to do that I'll enjoy. I will keep my current client as it is straightforward enough and they are good to work for, but looking for something else to expand or to supplement with.

I don't want to go back to employment and want to stay freelance. Maybe I could offer my design services but I do feel like most people can do it themselves if they set their mind to it so is it a waste of time? Or am I putting myself down?

I feel I know my stuff & I do enjoy it to a degree but I can't help but feel the amount of marketing guidance and 'courses' on social media now feels so generic and fake. I follow one paid for group where small businesses join up to learn how to promote their business online and the 'tutor' simply copies content from free marketing newsletters as well as constantly recycles content and makes 6 figures!

There's thousands of 'digital marketers' implying they earn 6 figures by reselling a marketing course. They post content of lovely family time or having a coffee on a Tuesday afternoon saying 'this could be you too' but on reality it's not them at all.

Social media is so fake now I want to step away from it.

Anyone else do anything similar that has any tips or suggestions on how to chose a different path? I do feel inspired to do more but I need help figuring it out xx

What tasks do you enjoy and would be okay doing more of of? What tasks do you really not want to do again? You may not be able to avoid all of it- every job has some tedious admin, for example, but if you really don't get on with it, you don't want more than thr minimum necessary.

Think about all the different things you do now, think about things in other jobs, things you would like, things you wouldn't. There are probably some you're neutral about, and some you just don't know either way, because no experience.

This should help build a profile of the job you want, and then you can work out which roles might fit it.

Thank you for your reply, I will do all of that and see if it helps me feel more focused on one area
