Getting a temporary job before returning to normal job

Hello
Does anyone know if I can get a temporary job just for a month and a half until I can return to my normal job? I work in a school and there's a cover teacher currently covering my maternity leave. I had originally wanted to return to work at the beginning of the spring term in February but I recently found out I won't qualify for the 30 hours gov hours for nursery if I don't return to work by the end of January.
I contacted the school and asked if I can return 2 weeks earlier than originally planned but I've had no reply so far ( it's been a week). I worry I will upset my colleagues and the cover teacher for wanting to return early.
Many thanks.

If you tell them 8 weeks in advance it’s up to you not them. If you met the deadline then you’re fine, it may slightly depend if you asked or told them, but even a single form entry school is likely to be a £1.5m turnover organisation two weeks of a teacher salary with on costs is unlikely to be more than £2k unless you are very senior, they may grumble but they can suck it up. If you didn’t meet the 8 weeks then I’d ask your union.
