Help me feel excited

Last year I left a role in the civil service in a department I’ve always wanted to work at since graduation (a long time ago), due to a change in personal circumstances. I’ve enjoyed time with my child who has started school this year. Since summer I’ve been applying for jobs with very little luck generally but especially in the civil service (another rejection today).

Prior to my CS role I was made redundant alongside the whole team I worked within a legal job. I applied for a role there and have got it with a January start. I feel torn between knowing I should do the job as the market is so dire and working is important and just wanting to hold out until I get something that I really want to do. Going back to the old company seems like a step back especially as it’s not a promotion it’s essentially the same job.

Help me focus on the positive please..

I know exactly what you mean, I don’t like to go back on myself either. However - presumably you’ve been job hunting because you need a job. There is absolutely nothing to stop you continuing to look for another job, that’s what I’d do.

Out of interest, why didn’t you just apply for a career break from the Civil Service?

Yes I want a job, I need the stimulation and as with everyone the money.

I would continue looking for something but I just can’t shake this feeling that I’m going to regret going back and but also that the adult thing is to suck it up.

I’m not even going back at a higher level it’s exactly where I left.
