Just wanting to get some feedback to level set expectations. Has work gotten harder than say 2 years? Is more expected from you then before ? Is there more pressure now ? Keen to know, maybe it will help me cope better with the reality of work today …

Not in my area of work. Probably depends on the sector.

Nope.

I work in a school so emphatically YES. Mainly due to the reduction in funding, particularly when it comes to SEN.

100% bloody hard going which I don’t mind in peaks but the peak seems to be new norm and it’s relentless.

Absolutely. I work in a public sector professional role, not management. I’m in my late 50s and work more slowly than younger colleagues as I’m less dexterous with the different IT systems but this only accounts for about an extra hour per day. I put in 50 hours every week, office 3, 4 or 5 days per week. I book my leave but don’t take 2 weeks of it per year as I just can’t get enough work to a state I can leave it. My Dad was a senior manager in the public sector and he is astonished by my workload. It’s risen sharply past 2 years as targets driven up. I’m constantly anxious. Only 10 more years to go if I’m lucky enough to still have a job. But compared to previous generations who worked in mills and quarries etc I’ve got it easy.
