2 day a week working pattern

Hi everyone,

I currently work Mondays and Thursday, but find the 2 day gap too much of a wait, like I'm waiting for Thursday to come to get it done with. I'm considering switching to Mondays & Wednesdays, or Tuesdays & Wednesdays. I do like doing the Monday.. not sure if doing Tuesday will feel like I'm waiting for the week to start. A lot of people avoid Mondays because you have to use annual leave allowance on bank holidays that aren't covered by the pro-rata bank holidays given. However, all bank holiday Mondays fall into school holidays anyway (half-terms/summer/christmas) except one (the Early May one). So does it really make a difference if you work Mondays, since I'll be taking 1-2 days off in the week when the kid's holidays are anyway (e.g. in Easter, Monday 6th is a BH, and I'll take 2 days off in between 6th-10th April, including the 6th if I continue working Mondays)? Does anyone work these patterns and have a preference? Thanks

My personal preference would be Tuesday, Wednesday because it is back to back with no break. I used to work Mon, Tues half a day Wed. It meant that it felt like I had a long weekend, not really as I had a toddler at home but that is how it felt to me.

I would go for Mon and Wed.
I once worked 2 consecutive days (Tues and Wed) and I really struggled to keep up with what was going on. It was too big a gap until I was back at work and every week I felt like I was returning from holiday. I’d just caught up and then I was off again!

No, not Mondays! You’ll lose holiday.

I used to do Tuesday and Thursday. It was nice having a day off in the middle and it wasn’t too long a gap being only one day. It was also nice when I was at work knowing I never had to go back the next day.

Did you feel as if you were waiting around for your Wednesday to arrive so you could start your working week?

Ive done Mon-Wed and Wed - Fri, loved Wed-Fri! Felt like a bonus weekend with no Sunday scaries. Full time again these days though 😖

That sounds like a nice set up. I suppose because I'm thinking of picking up another 2-3 day part time role (if I find one!), I'm thinking about a work pattern that would flow well. I thought I would lose leave too, but when I looked at the school holidays, the Monday bank holidays always fell in them. So they became the days I would take off in the kids' school holidays - so works out the same, minus the early May one - that would have to come out of leave.

Thanks for the insight. Think 2 days isn't enough for me now that my youngest has started school, so I'm looking to do another part time job alongside my current one. Tricky finding school hours though. I don't envy you!
