I have a job interview tomorrow, and have decided not to wear a suit. Am I mad?

I think I am going to risk not wearing a suit. Because I gave them all to the charity shop a month ago thinking that it would be ages until i next went to a job interview.

I was going to wear a white shirt and a lovely new cotton skirt. Its smart. But no jacket.

Its for a non client facing business development role, so I think I should be safe.

What do you think MN Jury?

I would accept that as suitable interview wear - especially in the summer. Smart shoes needed though

Well, if you don't have a see-yout, you don't have much choice...

... and it will be very hot tomorrow.

How much do you want the job?

I have never worn a suit to an interview (& I have a client facing role). In my area at least, i think they're a bit passe/try hard. Smart separates the way to go.
Smart shoes, good bag & classy accessories (ie not a Lucinda style berret, bless her & love her)

Thanks all, I was upstairs trying on alternatives, of which there are none.

Have smart shoes. Have good bag. will even blow dry my hair. I think it will be OK.

I also have an eye infection which tbh makes me look a bit sinister, and there's nothing I can do about this. Except wear sunglasses, in the actual interview, which would not be good.

Thanks all.

I always wear a suit to an interview, even its an internal position, and even though I don't have to/in fact not appropriate to wear it in my day to day work.

But, as you say, you don't have one! So what you propose sounds fine, they cant not give you the job because you don't wear a suit, just creates very clear first impressions.

moodlumthehoodlum · 08/06/2008 22:07

Its been a nightmare. I only found out I had the interview last monday and have been on holiday in devon until today. Nowhere to buy a suit (unless I turned up in a wetsuit) in Salcombe, and so now its a question of last minute hoping.

mood I think for me its a personal thing anyway, it makes me feel more confident I think, which in turn creates a good impression. So I don;t necessarily think its the suit per se.

A wet suit would be a bit too hot tomorrow, not a good idea

GOOD LUCK!

SexyMilf · 08/06/2008 22:58

Good luck, outfit sounds great

moodlumthehoodlum · 09/06/2008 17:55

Yay. Felt fine. Everyone was very "casual" and no one was wearing a suit, so it was OK.

Hurray. Thanks all for the advice. If they ask me back for interview no2 I shall confer once more

i think you'll be fine, just ensure your hair, shoes, make up and jewllery are super neat and smart. less is more maybe?
good luck! x
