How would you split 3.5 days?

I will be working 3.5 days (28 hours); what option you think will be best?

1 Thursday half day and Friday off
2 Wednesday half day and Friday off
3 Monday half day, Friday off
4 Monday off, Friday half day.

I do number 2. Quite like having the first half of the week to crack through stuff with consistency, then a day off the. Half day Friday to mop up

WhyArePiratesCalledPiratessss · 17/11/2025 21:17

4 for me!
Mondays suck.
Early Friday finish each week.
Sounds brilliant!

YourSnugHazelTraybake · 17/11/2025 21:17

Option 4. Having Monday as a non working day generally gives you more choice of when to take annual leave, as bank holidays are added into your leave pro rata.

Newsenmum · 17/11/2025 21:18

Either 1 or 4

ladygindiva · 17/11/2025 21:18

Monday off, Friday half day. You can go away for a long weekend.

YorkshireIndie · 17/11/2025 21:19

Monday off as your BH will be pro rata and you will owe them hours if you work a Monday. Any way to condense the hours into three long days?

Newmoonday · 18/11/2025 07:23

Thank you all. I am going for Monday off and Friday half day; as I would give me more annual leave, options for long weekends and I do get Mondays blues.

I didn't go for Monday off in the end, because most of the independent businesses round here seem to close on a Monday. Just one to add into the equation because I do agree at first glance Monday off is the best choice!

NewNamee · 19/11/2025 14:04

I'd be asking to condense the hours into 3 days if possible.

9.5 hours on a Tuesday and Wednesday
9 hours on a Thursday
Mon and Fri off...

Without a doubtr the best option (if it's an option). I've just reduced my hours to 3 days a week (Tues to Thurs) and it's been transformative

I feel like it's the best option for the employer too (assuming it's not a job that needs a certain amount of cover for particular hours etc)... It takes me a while to get going each day, I'd be a lot more productive in those 3.5 hours if they were tagged onto the end of another day.

GentlyGentlyOhDear · 19/11/2025 15:51

I do 3.5 days with full days on Monday and Tuesday then 2x school hour days to drop off and pick up then Friday off.
I used to just work Tues, Wed, Thur and loved Mondays and Fridays off, so I agree Monday off due to bank hols issue and then half day Friday.

Monday off as it works better for annual leave. You’ll get days back rather than have them taken away from you (bank holidays).

Xanadu58 · 19/11/2025 16:33

Option 4

TheGriffle · 19/11/2025 16:35

I do option 4 and it’s the best option for me. Early Friday finish, no Sunday evening blues and the pro rata bank hol allowance means I get more hours to book when I want then I did when I did work Mondays.

coxesorangepippin · 19/11/2025 21:48

Option 1 for me

Sounds great 😃

Thanks. Their working hours are 9 to 6 so already quite a long day. I am still going back and forward between 1 and 4 as it seems Monday is a busy day in the office with company meeting and most people in. Will try different options before I commit; seems to be flexible but I would rather fix it,

Regarding Monday bank holidays I can work Tuesday to Friday on thise weekends so I don’t loose a holiday

It is awhile since I worked part time do getting used to it again
