Complaints at work? How to deal with

N/C i work in private adult education
I've had a complaint about a course i teach..
Now I don't actually like the course but ....

I get feedback on every course. This particular course itself is not great. But feedback is okish not great not bad.
I understand why but I have no control over the content.

Last week I tried my best, they didn't want to talk and didn't like the content.
All fair enough but 1 person actually emailed my company after the course to complain.
Things including I talked/ waffled
I made a joke about how it used to be easy to network at work if you smoked years ago.
I didn't know the specific politics at their company.
Etc
All a bit whatever but why specifically email.
My boss showed me the email and suggested as I don't like it maybe I just do other courses.
I'm a bit ok
I repeat this to my dh and it turns out she knows him from years ago. He called her out on being useless and incompetent ( very unprofessionally in front of others, she was demoted)
Now I have a vv unusual surname so she connected the dots.
Am I mad to think this is why she complained? Maybe I'm clutching at straws??

I really don't think you should have discussed with your DH. The situation maybe but clearly you named her.

Why? I thought i was going to have a meaningless conversation saying X said this about me. I had no idea her knew her?

I think you're massively reaching to be honest. You admit you don't like teaching this course, the content is rubbish and this class wasn't very engaged, so I wouldn't have been surprised to receive a complaint at all. I very much doubt she's some woman with a vendetta against your husband.

I hope so. It's just odd. Or maybe it's just me but if I was on a compulsory course ( no exams or anything) and I didn't like it I'd feed that back in my feedback form. Not specifically email the training provider to complain?

It sounds like you know longer have to teach the course so that's a win? I'd take the positive and forget the rest
