I'm 48 and have struggled with mental health problems for the last 3 years. I've lost most of my social skills through depression and am finding work as a research scientist very difficult. What jobs could I do from home instead?

Have you got good admin skills or can you work remotely? You could consider being a virtual assistant?

Do you have any support network around you of research scientists or in the research community? I know it's quite a hard career path with lots of uncertainty.

The civill service could be an option. It is no longer as London based as it was and a role in DSIT could suit your skills. It may be hybrid rather than totally home based but you could always negotiate.
