I'm a management accountant and have spent 25 years running finance depts in other people's failing businesses and being viewed as an overhead.

Feeling a bit down about career choice it's too late to change :)

What would you like to do instead?

topcat2014 · 01/11/2025 14:30

Maybe move into practice?

But that would probably require retraining, so probably stuck. Just not really enjoying it anymore

I'm CGMA. I love it. I've moved from management accountant to Finance Business Partner though.

I hated working in practice (that's where I started), if I was to ever retrain it would be to HR I think.

I moved from practice ACA - (only PQ, failed a paper) to Industry CIMA qualified.

Which bits do you particularly dislike. And which bits like.
Have you spoken to anyone in Practice. What have they said re adjustments needed to join.

I'm ACMA too . What about looking for a role in public sector or charities as a management accountant. ?

I am retired now but it was a great choice for me.
I worked in financial services / head office type environments. Interesting at times, challenging at times, paid well, had some great colleagues.

Move to Civil Service - we are all overheads there
