Is anyone a swimming teacher? how are you finding it?

I have the opportunity to start training as a swimming instructor (Level 1 and 2 Swim England course) with a local leisure centre funding the course and then offering a job at the end of it as there is a shortage of teachers.

I am due to have an interview next after my initial application was successful and I thought it would be great to hear about people's experience.

I am only looking for a part-time role so this would fit. I have always loved swimming (I was born in a seaside town learned to swim really early) and I am quite sporty in general so I thought this might be a good fit.

I am not bothered about evening and weekend classes as I work freelance and from home at the moment so could still combine that with teaching.

Would love to hear from people who have already qualified!

It was a long time ago now but my father retrained to be a swimming teacher in his 40s. He absolutely loved it and found it really rewarding. He taught at the local pool and enjoyed it so much he ran swimming clubs in his spare time. He taught schools and ran everything from baby classes to pensioner's swimming club. I remember the day he came home so full of joy because he had taught an 80 year old blind man to swim.

Everyone in the local area knew him and come the end he was teaching the children of his original pupils. Even when he was an elderly, long retired man people would come up to him the street and say, "Hello Mr SeaAndStars, I just wanted to say thank you for teaching me to swim and for all the fun times at swimming club".

When he retired the swimming clubs had a big party and I have such a happy memory of dad swimming floating in the pool with a pint mug of beer in his hand.
