Internal vacancies - can you be notified if unsuccessful

Hi,

I applied reluctantly for an internal job opportunity with my current role coming to an end, end of year. It would only give me an extension of another 3 months with the organisation under another fixed term contact, so part of me was thinking is it worth it.

After applying I realised in all the job ad bumph, it didn't express where specifically this was in the organisation so once closing date had passed I got in touch with the recruitment team who said it can be across many depts (but a good question to ask the interview panel if I was selected?!) which then made me further slightly dubious to whether this role really existed.

Anyway a week has passed from when it was indicated a selection would be made for interview. I'm thinking I haven't made the sift.

I don't have much experience of internal vacancies - just wonder if I'd get an unsuccessful letter only once the appointment gets made in these circumstances?

Many thanks

A week isn't long IME. I would expect to be notified if not being asked for interview for an internal position.

So no closing date? They should provide a closing date and interview date. Recruitment process is poor!

Thank you both for responding I did find it strange and got an eye on the junk folder.

The closing date was 5th with selection response for interviews on or by 12th in the initial hopeful instance. I did see sometimes internal can be really slow but for a short term post I just thought they’d want someone in quickest. There was no hiring manager contact in the advert.

Suppose they are well within their rights to completely withdraw recruitment and as I understand it I may have a lot of competition, probably loads of us with a pending end date of current contract. Unsure if I want to put my head above the parapet chasing it or get myself forced in a corner.

@uglyfeet No HR function? It seems a poor process. Can you get another job fairly easily?
