Maternity Cover Contract

3 weeks into a maternity cover contract and the person who is leaving is still in situ.

There is a terrible atmosphere in the office as the person I am taking over from has poor people skills and obviously is not liked or respected by her team. They have a massive issue with staff turnover.

I have already grasped that the way I want to do things will be massively different from her way so am going to have to bite my tongue for next few weeks and suck it her rudeness.

It's definitely not an organisation I would want to work for permanently but hope I can see through 12 month contract.

Anybody had a similar experience?

I decided long ago that a handover from the person you’re replacing is never a good thing! I had a job where I took over from someone who was retiring. He was absolutely awful, everyone hated him. It was an awkward few weeks!

it also let me see how poorly the management were handling the situation/how they dealt with staff problems (or didn’t deal with them more accurately). I left pretty quickly (about 3 months) as I could see it wasn’t somewhere I’d want to work long term.
