New job anxiety

Started new job as a TA this week in a school. Feeling really anxious and out of my depth. Staff are friendly but it’s all so overwhelming and feel like I’m expected to know everything already. It’s so busy, I don’t think this is intentional. Finding the behaviours hard to deal with and just not sure I’m up to it.
Has anyone been in this position and ended up settling and enjoying it? Any tips for getting through general new job jitters? Been up a lot with my baby through the night so probably not helping.

Congrats on your new job! This sounds really normal - I felt exactly the same when I started my last role, full of self-doubt and wondering how I'd managed to get the job. Honestly I think it's not unusual but I know it's frustrating. Do you feel you have any allies yet? Sometimes it's not until you find a couple of people you click with that you start to feel settled. Other than that I would try and be clear with boundaries and limitations, i.e. "I'd love to help with this but I haven't been trained/had any more info - could someone talk me through it/is there a written process I could follow please?"

The only other thing I'd add is that in those environments it can be quite hard to avoid the "but this is how it's always been done" mentality simply because you feel more scared of changing things or making a mistake when you e less confidence in your own abilities.

You sounds diligent and thoughtful though, I'm sure you'll be a great TA and hope you get some more sleep soon!

I believe in you and I'm 100% confident you can do this.

Others will be along with more practical advice soon.

I bet if you started a thread asking for help from TAs you would get loads of advice

It’s a totally natural feeling to start a new job. You will be learning new routines, different ways each teacher deals with situations, new behaviours, new children.

its overwhelming at times and I think the self doubt creeps in, once you are familiar with the routines , behaviours and strategies you’ll be amazing and feel more confident in your abilities.

Thank you for the supportive replies. I really appreciate it. I know I need to give it time. It’s just such an awful feeling of being ungrounded, like a duck out of water. Also the fear of doing things ‘wrong’ as so busy.
I will try and channel some more confidence and self belief today.
Thank you all again, hope your Thursday is smooth!
