My son is 17 and he has a paid TA job at a local dance school where he helps 2 evenings a week 4 hours in total. He was asked to apply for a DBS check which he has done - his employer sent him the link. It cost him £49.50 which he has paid but should the employer not pay for this?

I would expect them to. I’ve had many done over the years and the employer has always paid. I pay a little extra now for a portable DBS but that’s my choice.

He just paid it without questioning it as asked for payment at the end before he could proceed. I wonder if perhaps they may reimburse him I am not sure. He gets on well with the principal and has been dancing there for many years so I think he should ask her if he will get reimbursed. I said I would e mail her for him but he doesn't want me to get involved in his working life.

I've never had to pay for a DBS.
