Earning money as a SAHM

Hi all,

my partner and I have had a rough few years and are financially struggling a lot. Until I can get back to work (we have a young child who I cannot put into nursery currently) I am thinking of any way that I can boost our income at nights when he’s asleep and during the weekends when my partner can take over parenting . I’ve already sold everything I can on Vinted.

Can anyone please offer suggestions and/
or a success story?
Ideally looking for remote admin/ PA/ entry level HR work.

Paid surveys sound like a scam- I signed up to a website but didn’t seem to meet the criteria for the surveys being put out there and it wasn’t fruitful- has anyone actually made money from them?

Or found a remote WFH job in the evening that worked?

Thanks in advance

Could you not work nights and/or weekends out of the house? Care, supermarket etc?

Heyhiitsme · 02/10/2025 15:55

Early morning picking for online orders in a supermarket? The shifts tend to be short enough you can actually get some sleep too (4-8am-ish, some start and finish earlier) and it does add up. I used to manage one of the warehouses and about 60% of the pickers were mums who needed hours to work around childcare.

Do you have any experience in those fields? Admin/ PA remote jobs are not so easy to come by and I think you’d need experience.

Oh this is one to consider, thank you!

If it's legal or medical experience you can sign up to Dictate Now. They do transcription.

I teach a couple exercise classes a week for pin money but I had to do a quali and be first aid trained.

You may qualify for UC or ESA if your child has additional needs/you have no savings.

user593 · 03/10/2025 15:36

My experience is a bit outdated with this but when I started out I did bank work for the NHS just typing up dictation. They didn’t mind what hours I kept doing it, and there was an endless stream of dictation that needed typing (and my typing speed, at the time, was over 100 wpm!).

Get an out of the house job if your partner is in. They’re much easier to find than unskilled PT WFH jobs or “side huddles.

sweetpeaorchestra · 03/10/2025 17:08

If you’ve got EA experience you could look for virtual assistance roles /be self employed for clients. but the majority of EA/PA jobs I see are at least 30 hours

ToKittyornottoKitty · 03/10/2025 17:15

Why does the work need to be in the house?

SummerInSun · 03/10/2025 17:15

Assuming your DH can be at home with your DC, what about babysitting? Can you sign up with an agency? Or even let the parents of your DC’s friends know that you are happy to babysit for some extra cash. People would much rather have a babysitter they know and trust who is also a parent than an unknown teenager.

Coldbrewsaveme · 03/10/2025 21:38

Thank you for the suggestions everyone
