Boymom2781 · Now
I have always worked in care settings, private and NHS as a support worker. More recently I did some admin roles. But I haven't worked since having my boys. My husband works but I feel I need to go back to earn a little something to help out. However I don't want to have to put my kids in care during the holidays or before/after school clubs ect I understand some people have no choice but I always wanted to be a stay at home mom really. That was the plan. Is there jobs out there between school hours? Just a couple days a week? Should I try and work for myself and start something new? Any suggestions welcomed! What do moms do to fit work around their children!!?

Cleaner, dinner lady, dog walker, self employed carer?

I don't think it's right that women settle for 'small' jobs that work around the children, while fathers keep their career and enjoy parenthood with minimal risk.
I was a sahm for a really long time but when the shit hits the fan, it really is very hard to get back into the workplace. You lose a lot of security and career progression.
It's totally fine to sah for a while and if you choose that, then thoroughly enjoy it in the full knowledge that you are balancing risk. But if you feel the need to go back to work, I strongly urge you to do it properly and make your dh shoulder his fair share of the parenting. Do a job you love(if you can), not one that just gives you more drudge work for little meaningful reward - it's the worst of both worlds imo!

Sounds like you can’t afford to be a stay at home mum to school age children if you feel you need to earn to help out.

A job as school support staff would probably match what you’re looking for.
