Do you worry about AI?

I know AI will get better and better and there will be more and more job losses due to it. People say AI is just a tool but it will eventually replace more and more jobs as companies will use it to save money.

It cost me a job.

I am deeply concerned about my role yes. While I’m in public relations which sounds fairly safe, a lot of it is essentially copywriting - statements, press releases, attributed articles, speeches, news updates, announcements… all of which AI can do. Yes a human is needed to check and tweak but I work in an in-house press team of five and I reckon it could be done with one if the company embraces AI to the max. Our media monitoring agency already uses it for coverage searching, evaluation and reporting, which used to be done by people.

I am increasingly concerned.

I'm not for my job personally (mental health nurse), but I do worry about the impact on many areas of work.

It will replace jobs. New technology always does.

But technological advances also create new jobs and new industries. Mobile phones were a rare and special thing when I was a teenager and now not having one is a rare thing.

The advent of the smart phone has created tens of millions of jobs globally including in design, manufacturing, sales, marketing, software design, maintenance, security etc etc.

Change always makes people worried, it’s natural. But the world is always moving on.
