Have you tried AI? It’s cheaper

Put your CV into AI and ask them to make it sound more intelligent and professional 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is it about making sure your skills and experience are drawn out and reflected appropriately or the way it’s written?

Agree, and you may find a 'professional' will do that these days anyway and charge you for the result!

I would be concerned that the employer would identify it as edited by AI and discount it. Also, CV requirements are different for each country - is there a risk that AI would aim at a US employer, for example?

Making sure skills are experience are drawn out and reflected appropriately.

That is my concern

True, if they use AI that defeats the purpose.

I’ve had to do this from a corporate perspective for bids. There are companies that offer a personal cv writing service, but I’ve not used any - I assume the quality between different providers would vary a lot. Some companies offer this service as part of a redundancy package - could this apply to anyone you know that you can ask?

Can you get someone you know to grill you on each aspect of the proposed role, really draw out your successes, how you successfully dealt with challenges, qualities that align with company ethos etc?

Thank you all.

Does everyone use a cover letter? Do they aff it to the cv file? When applying for jobs it only allows for one file? Not space for email either.

I am using my professional body platform and linked in to apply for jobs.

Just got chatgpt to review and create a new one. Will have a look at both. Don’t want it to look too obvious AI.

I got TopCV to rewrite my CV and LinkedIn profile after a redundancy and it was the most ridiculous use of £150 I’ve ever spent.

The formatting was mental, everything jammed into tiny boxes to hit a two-page maximum, which meant that any tailoring for different jobs put the whole format out of whack.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to pay for it

My advice

  • ask AI to help but DON’T just ask it to rewrite for you. Ask it to ask you a series of questions to draw out your best experience and impact
  • this is a common answer but it really changes the CV - don’t just list what you did, list what it meant. Impact over actions.
  • Use action words and breathe life into it with words like ‘steered’, ‘directed’,‘introduced’ etc

Best of luck OP
