Career Coaching?

Background - I was made redundant last year and was lucky enough to walk straight into another job at the same level. The catch was that it was a contract until the end of this year and there's no chance it will be renewed because they can't afford it. Obviously there's still time for applications and something might come up but I'm also wondering about a change of career. The big issue is I've been in my sector for 20 years and I don't know what else I can do!

Has anyone worked with a career coach to help them work out what their skill set is and how else they can apply it? How does it work and how do you go about finding one? I'm in London, which I would hope makes it a little easier.

I worked with a career coach once - not for career change but to manage burnout and be more strategic to ask/ get a raise and work out my next steps. It worked, and while on a certain level they didn’t tell me anything totally surprising, it was great to have a third person, objective and with no stake in the game to listen to my work woes. They didn’t offer advice as such but more like ask questions and help me see things more objectively if that makes sense

That does sound useful! How did you find them, just by googling?

Yes, I found them online - but through social media, through my professional network (I looked around - didn’t ask anyone)
