Husband needs networking tips to find job

My husband has been out of work since January, when he got made redundant. Since then he’s made job seeking his full time occupation, he’s applied for hundreds of roles online and usually doesn’t even get shortlisted. He’s been updating his CV for each vacancy, adapting keywords to match the JD etc but still not getting shortlisted. He’s had two first stage interviews in that time but not gone further. He’s been put forward for roles many times by recruiters but not got past that stage. He’s got lots of experience and skills in his field and we can’t understand why he’s not getting shortlisted. I’ve read that companies are using AI to screen applications and that it’s really hard to get past the algorithms. It’s difficult now too because there’s a gap on his CV, which doesn’t help. People say that networking is the best way to get a job, but how? If anyone has any tips that would be great. He works in digital marketing. Many thanks!
