Had a job interview with HMRC, how long does it take to hear about outcome?

How long is a piece of string?

I heard after 6 weeks for a mass campaign, 2 days for a small campaign and 2 weeks for an internal promotion.

Mine was a mass campaign. Exactly 1 month to get provisional offer after interview. 3 more months to pass all checks then started 2 months after that.
Good Luck!

We're not to discuss security clearances. It doesn't have any bearing on initial job offers though - you'll only receive a conditional offer before PECS anyway.

How long for a job to start on the lowest security clearance

Can't be stated. Too many factors. Could be a couple of weeks for the clearances to come back or take several months.

Also hugely depends on the department, how many people are being put through simultaneously, whether social media / behaviour type checks are required for the role, how proactive the vacancy manager is, how proactive the HR manager is....

In short, it takes as long as it takes. There is no one who can tell you what will happen.

Again this is a how long is a piece of string thing. It took me four months from application to start date. I got a conditional offer 3 weeks after interview. Checks took ages due to delay in DBS and having an expired passport. My department only starts new people every four weeks and in batches of 25 to do the online onboarding training.

I got asked for my mobile number before the job interview. Is this normal or does this get sent to British intelligence

I expect they wanted that to offer any future feedback. I worked in the CS for 30 years, with relatively high level security clearance, as far as I know my personal mobile number was never checked by the intelligence service.

MyLoftyTiger · 25/08/2025 18:44

But I thought you got feedback online. I got my application feedback online

When did you have the interview? When did they expect you to be informed? Because that's all that matters.

And no, "British Intelligence" won't have your phone number from your job interview.

LIZS · 25/08/2025 19:44

Depends how many interviews they are doing and when. They could be spread over several weeks. The CS is not renowned for speed re. Recruitment.
