Quitting job in pregnancy

Hello,

Has anyone on here quit their job while pregnant and what does this mean for maternity (UK)?

Background information - I’ve had a job since I was 15 (I’m 33) and I’ve always worked. No judgment to anyone, just to get the context that I’m not someone who just doesn’t feel like working and quits for no reason.

I’m only 10 weeks pregnant. I work in an emotionally intense job. Yesterday I had to talk 3 separate people out of ending their lives and it’s absolutely causing me so much stress. I am dreading work so much, I cry the night before and the morning of and feel awful the whole time I’m there. My anger is also through the roof at home. (Yes hormone related too.) however I feel like this is so so bad for the growing baby. I have to give a months notice anyway, so it’s not like I can leave on the spot.

I wouldn’t be quitting work entirely as I have some self employed work that I also do but I’d be taking a huge pay cut. We can just about cope with one main income but what does this mean for maternity? Anyone have any ideas? I’ve read that I would still get state? But it’s all still so confusing online! Or do I need to suck it up a bit longer for state?

thanks all

If you stayed until you were 25 weeks then you'd qualify for SMP. If you left before that you could claim Maternity Allowance instead
