Handing in notice just before new role? What pay?

I have worked for 12 months on a contract. I have been offered and accepted a variation to that contract (a letter) to a new managerial role. I would have 2 weeks after the 12 month contract in my old position and then I would get the promotion to the new position.

If I handed in my notice during those 2 weeks before I became a manager, what pay would I get during the notice period? The lower or higher?

Why do you need to hand in your notice?

Can you clarify your post?

Are you saying that you’ve got an extended (or permanent) contract because of a promotion in the same company? If that is the case you wouldn’t resign you’d remain in the same company. I would expect a start date for the promotion to be agreed and you’d be paid at the higher rate from that date.

So I was promoted in April, start date was agreed as 1st June, my higher pay rate was calculated from that date.

Your not starting your new role ( higher grade) in your notice period so would presume you’d be paid at existing rate

You'd get the lower pay. But why would you need to hand in your notice at all? Wouldn't you just let the contract expire and not accept the other position?
