Dropping out of new job just days before start date

Has anyone done this? I am due to start my new job in a few days time and I have realised it’s not for me. I guess this will burn all bridges at that company but surely it is better than starting then handing in notice straight away?

dont you need a job?
is this just cold feet?

Sounds like last minute nerves to be honest. I wouldn't drop out without actually going in and seeing what it's like. You really can't tell that it's not for you until you're actually doing the job.

How is it not for you? i would at least give it a try, you might surprise yourself.
I’ve been through several company reorganisations, most of the new jobs weren’t my choice. i need a job, so i fave them a try. only one of i think 6 or 7 was genuinely not for me, but gave me time to find something else.

Why did you take the job offer?
Why are you turning it down now?

dogsarethebestalways · 24/08/2025 07:45

What's the reason? If something has changed in your personal life, it happens and hopefully they'll be understanding. They can go back to other applicants and hopefully still get one of them on board. If you're just nervous, why not give it a go?

As a hiring manager do it now & don’t waste their & your time anymore!
it’s not pleasant but better now than in say 3 months and they have wasted their time training you & then have to start all over again

Lucky you that have a job. My daughter graduated last year and can’t find anything for dear life. You should count your blessing. The job market is crazy right now ! Good luck in whatever decision you make.
