Why would someone bring in Christmas chocolates in August?

A coworker returned from a two-week leave bearing a circular box of chocolates adorned with 'seasons greetings' and festive images like holly, ivy, and a gold bow ribbon for us all. Curiously, I noticed the label on the bottom indicated a best-before date of August 2025. What are your thoughts on this situation?

They were clearly reduced in the shop.

Complet · 21/08/2025 07:30

They found some chocolate that was about to go off and thought that instead of wasting it they would share it with others. I would think it was a nice gesture.

Mumdiva99 · 21/08/2025 07:30

She's bought them to be eaten before they go off. What's wrong with that?

LastKnownSurvivor · 21/08/2025 07:31

Either bought in a bargain basement place as near use by date; or something she had in the cupboard left over from last Christmas.

Chocolate is chocolate and if it's still in date it might as well be eaten!

beemamare · 21/08/2025 07:33

They bought you chocolate. This is a reason to celebrate.

GenieGenealogy · 21/08/2025 07:33

Probably left over from Christmas and brought in to share.

Also, chocolate will not "go off" miraculously overnight between 31st August and 1 September.

TorroFerney · 21/08/2025 07:33

I noticed the label - give over you looked. What do you think op? I’d think that’s nice bringing chocolates in when you didn’t need to.

ChompandaGrazia · 21/08/2025 07:34

They were clearing out some cupboards in their time off and found the box of chocolates left over from Christmas. They won’t eat the lot so they brought them in.

BetweenTwoFerns · 21/08/2025 07:36

I think it’s fine and being curious by things like this is beyond my comprehension. Some people aren’t concerned about what coworkers might possibly think if they bring in Christmas chocolates in August so it won’t have crossed her mind that she might confuse you.

What happened is…she could have thrown them in the bin but she brought them in to work in case anyone wanted one.

MiddleAgedDread · 21/08/2025 07:38

They’ll have had them in the cupboard since last Xmas and brought them in to share so they don’t go out of date. I don’t really see what’s so weird about that??

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 21/08/2025 07:39

They had chocolate that would be going out of date. They didn't want to waste it.

LittleCarrot12 · 21/08/2025 07:41

Don’t see the issue.
Much better than my colleague who brings in out of date chocolate every year.

LittleBearPad · 21/08/2025 07:42

Christmas chocolate will still taste good in August. Seems rather kind to me

youalright · 21/08/2025 07:43

That was nice of her better then, them going to waste i hope you said thankyou

Strugglingtodomybest · 21/08/2025 07:45

What are your thoughts on this situation?

Situation? She brought in chocolates that are going out of date soon to share. That's it. I'm not sure how much deeper you can think it.

bugalugs45 · 21/08/2025 08:04

I don’t think that they’re trying to pass them off as ‘ holiday sweets ‘ brought back from their travels, if you don’t want to eat them then don’t , have they made a big song and dance about gifting them , I’m guessing not , either eat them or don’t , they wouldn’t last 5 minutes in my workplace lol

Quite. What a weird thread.

BetweenTwoFerns · 21/08/2025 08:06

Imagine being so easily confused. 😵‍💫

SomeOfTheTrouble · 21/08/2025 08:06

Obviously wanted them to be eaten before they went out of date, so they didn’t go to waste. Sensible.
Can it really be described as a ‘situation’?!

Pancakeflipper · 21/08/2025 08:07

They found the box in a cupboard and thought "ooh, forgot about them, they need eating up, will take to work, they like a chocolate"

Do you think there's a more interesting sinster reason ?

ActuallyRomantic · 21/08/2025 08:07

My thoughts are you don’t like your colleague.

Minesril · 21/08/2025 08:08

Bit chilly this morning so I put my kid in a jumper. It features a Pokemon wearing a Santa hat.

Exactly this.

IkeaJesusChrist · 21/08/2025 08:27

Weird thread, it doesn't take a genius to work out why they brought the chocolates in.
