Paid sick pay (half rate) in advance but plan to return to work

Hoping someone who works in HR / Payroll might be able to advise. I’ve emailed my payroll dpt but not expecting a quick response due to it being payday and a Friday!
So my company sick policy is 4 months sick pay followed by 4 months half pay. I’ve been off for 3 months with chronic migraines, and about six months ago had a month off as was really poorly with Covid - suspect the migraines are also linked to this but that’s another story 🤦🏻‍♀️ my boss recently confirmed that my full sick pay is due to end on 19th aug half sick pay then starts. I’m planning to return to work (hopefully) w/c 25/8 just waiting on occupational health appt however this date has not been confirmed
Company pay date is 15th of the month with 1-14th paid in arrears and the remainder of the month paid as an advance. I am assuming that payroll have assumed I will be off sick for rest of month however what would happen should I return before end of August? Would the adjustment go into September pay or before then? Sorry for long post and hope I’ve explained it in a way that makes sense!

To be honest, anyone other than your own HR/Payroll dept will just be speculating.

They’ll have run payroll with what was on your record at that point. If your pay changes between payrolls you should automatically receive it in your next months pay. Your company may allow you to request an emergency payment but this would be down to their discretion, you can always ask your manager.

You should have your payslip, presumably that doesn’t show you’ve received full pay for august?

Yes I’ve checked my payslip and I’m a few hundred down so am assuming it’s due to my sick pay going to half pay from 19th Aug - I’m just a bit confused about what happens if I go back say on 26th Aug but my pay this month reflects that I’m still on sick leave for rest of month. I knew my pay was going to be impacted I just assumed it would be in September pay. I just always assumed our pay was fully arrears but it’s not 😫 thanks for your response though and I will speak to my boss next week to see if it could potentially be arranged as an additional payment once I’m back at work

As long as your return is recorded correctly on whatever payroll use then it should sort itself out in your September pay.

Do you work for a big organisation?

Generally payroll issues are corrected in the next payroll run after it’s been confirmed.

Any interim payments are only by special arrangements.
