Hi,

Is anybody familiar with the NHS band 3 development course? I was just wondering if it is absolutely compulsory or more that managment would like staff to attend the course (1 week training). TIA

It would depend on the role/trust.

Hi Sweetlikecocaa,
As a career consultant, the NHS doesn’t have a national rule that makes a specific “Band 3 development course” compulsory for everyone. The NHS separates statutory/mandatory training (which is required) from developmental training, which most Trusts encourage but don’t strictly enforce.
Whether that one-week Band 3 course is compulsory really depends on your Trust’s policy and how your management classifies it. Some Trusts label it as part of progressing into the full Band 3 role, while others treat it more as professional development.
in most cases, it’s strongly encouraged rather than absolutely mandatory but it can still affect progression, so it’s worth double-checking.
If you want to look at general Band 3 Role expectations and development info, this might help too:

Best regards,
Sophie

Thank you. So just in case this helps anybody else...

The band 3 development is NOT compulsory I had a meeting with union and they asked Matron. I think its advisable. I am going to do it next year within my usual working hours and perhaps split days.
