How to phrase a career break

As a feeelancer, recent clients/projects carries more weight than anything else with new clients.
I kept working whilst bringing up the kids, and could get by with relativey entry level jobs. Post divorce, I need to be aiming higher, but my semi-career break means other people (literally) half my age have more impressive portfolios.
I've just been asked for a recent project list (not a CV, just whathave you done recently) and I'm wondering how others have sold themselves in such situations.

Depending on how visible things are, why date anything? So they need to know a project was 5 years ago and not 5 minutes.

Haven't needed to update my cv for some time, but I used to put 'family responsibilities' on it to cover the time period when I was a SAHM.
