Should I take new role

So a bit of background, I work for a tech company. I’m currently at quite a high level in my work, but only in an administrative capacity, executive assistant to the board type thing. The company is going through a whole restructuring and I have been offered to be the manager of a department in which I have no experience or qualifications, they have said they are willing to pay for the qualifications up to postgraduate level and are not worried about the experience in the department or having no management experience as they think I will be a natural leader. Now, should I go for it and fake it until I make it, or would I be setting myself up for failure?

It’s something that does interest me but I guess it’s hard to say 100% as I’ve never worked in the area before

I’d go for it. I’ve managed quite a few teams where the people doing the role are the experts and I’ve skilled myself up.

If it interests you I agree with watchuswreckthemic. Go for it.

It may be that none of the existing department members are leadership types. An education can be provided easily enough - an effective manager familiar with company ethos less so. If they are saying that you are valuable to them - and how many times do we see on here that companies don’t think someone is valuable to them - then I would be at least exploring their offer.

I would also point out that many threads on here where women list how they have done well have women saying that they took a deep breath and leapt into the great unknown.
