DBS enhanced check question

Hi 😊

So I’ve landed my dream job. I currently work as a sister in a band 6 NHS trust, and will be moving to another NHS trust. Everything has gone through, we are just waiting for my DBS to confirm a start date. Stage 1, 2, and 3 were done within an hour when I’ve tracked it, but it’s been stuck on stage 4 for nearly 3 weeks.

I called the DBS team and they said they can’t really do anything until it’s taken 60 days. Does anyone have any tips on how I could potentially make this process go faster?

I think the issue is that since I started my current role we’ve moved area, and I’ve changed my name as we got married which I’ve read can make an impact. It also delayed DBS submission as I had some documents in my maiden name and some in my married name. I am on the update service but for some reason they couldn’t use the update service for my DBS even though I’ve only recently had a new DBS and joined the service

Totally fine if there’s nothing I can do to speed it up, I’m just really eager to start this job! Thank you

They are taking an age at the moment. I don’t think there is anything you can do.

It does seem to be totally random though. We’ve had some come through in a few days, and others take weeks.

Hopefully it won’t me too much longer for you. It’s lovely that you are excited!

I got enhance DBSd about 6-8 weeks ago... by two different organisations (don't ask). It only took 10 days to come thru. I have many name changes & foreign birth, which must complicate everything. I reckon they found my previous search in system & just updated that.

Am not following the 60 days thing.

Sometimes it inexplicably does this, no idea why, and it’s not the name change as I had this exact situation and had no delays. About 1 in 10 of mine get stuck, up to 4-5 weeks sometimes

mamagogo1 · 25/07/2025 21:53

Oh and mine came through in 24 hours this year, same batch another took 6 weeks!

It's also the time of year - new graduates are starting work in health, social work, etc.

OP did you finally get your DBS? I've just started one now and it's on Stage 2 (I'm only on day 2 but I am just really excited to start my placement) so I'm scouring the internet for shreds of hope

I’ve been waiting 8 weeks currently 😭

mamagogo1 · 17/09/2025 16:43

They can get stuck occasionally, I’ve sent 4 on one day, all straight forward, 3 are back by next morning the other takes a month.

AnxiousPenguin · 17/09/2025 16:59

AHHHH @Dollyapple what police force is it with?? I'm so worried about mine. I'm legit only on day 2 but I can't shake this anxiety!!

Mommy2boys30 · 26/09/2025 15:48

I'm on day 65 stuck at stage 4, it's been escalated, has anyone one received theirs lately that's had to wait a long time

AnxiousPenguin · 12/02/2026 18:08

Peeps, I know I'm 5 months late here, but I guess it would benefit anyone else reading in the future. Mine only took about 10 days in the end, phew!! No complications, though I did have to faff about with name placements at the time of applying for the DBS - i have a non-english name that doesn't follow the conventional "first name", "middle name", "surname" boxes used in the UK. Still, all is well! DBS in hand, and signed up for renewal thingy
