I started a new job after being laid off for the first time (not the best experience). I got a new job quickly and did all the training. Then was told I’d work as a contractor for another company. There are loads of training at the new job but have been working hard to get myself up to speed quickly and make myself useful. To me it was exciting as it’s working in an industry I was keen to learn more about.
When I met the person who I was to assist or work on behalf of I didn’t feel a good chemistry between us. Equally one or two interactions I’ve had with her she’s aloof and with stuff I have said didn’t kind of agree with my approach. This person reports into the person who is overseeing the work I will be allocated and have only met this person twice.
the company has now hired a full time person who will take on most of the activities I was brought on to do. My role is much reduced (there wasn’t a lot of work there to begin with) so I’m to start a transition on work that I’ve hardly begun to take on and to be honest there are others in the mix who do most of their operations and I was there to support and back up the aloof person who this week has been giving me more meetings to attend on her behalf. So I’m mega confused and don’t want to be negative.
the person I’m reporting to told me to give him a week or so to come back to confirm transitions and where I’d support. He also said the new person was not experienced and I’ve to oversee her in one programme (tbh there is not enough work for two of us and they work with other vendors to do the work). The other programme is supposed to go fully to this new person (though there is someone else also working on that who is confused over what they’ll do). This means i wouldn’t be working with aloof person so am I being ditched before I begin? I don’t know what to do to turn around as obviously I’m a contractor and so filling a gap which is no longer there yet I’ve not had the opportunity to show my worth
for the company I work for now this is a big deal for them in terms of business so im Concerned on how it will look if the company contracting me say they no longer need me. I don’t want to be laid off again due to not enough work. Plus I’d hoped to get great experience in the company contracting me and would be great on my CV. Am i overthinking this? They have 9 other contractors including a colleague from my company who is super busy. Should I ask for further clarification or wait until my manager at the contracting company gets back to me. I have enough to do in the next couple of weeks and training to do but feel I’m being messed around.
