Hoping someone can find me the unicorn of jobs. I'm semi retired but a few years off drawing my pension. Currently working in retail buts it's not working for me. I need to earn only about £100- £150 a week, but need it to be flexible, probably remote. The issue is I have no qualifications as I ran my own business for many years. However I an very capable, a quick learner and good with people, has anyone any suggestions?

It’s the unicorn of jobs, as you’ve said. Everyone wants flexible, remote work. Can you restart your own business?

Realistically otherwise it’s going to just be applying to a lot and hoping for the best; or hitting up connections of yours so you’ve got a way to differentiate yourself from everyone else wanting the same work.

All the remote jobs where I am now have a day in the office at least and a lot of check in systems to stop people from taking the pee, so they’re not flexible at all anymore. The only people who have flexibility are the people who’ve done a few years in the office to earn it first. I’m not saying that’s right but it’s far from unusual.

Thank you for that, my business was retail with a physical shop so not really what I'm looking for. Trying to find a balance of being able to work and travel after many years of being tied to a 7 day a week business, just need a small income to tied me over.

If you ran your own shop before, how about setting up an Etsy store or selling online? Granted it’s not quick immediate money but you’ll do better than most if you already understand the ins and outs of running a physical shop. Then you can manage your workload to the money you want to be making.

Other than that - unicorn jobs normally only exist in niches (I work for a unicorn-y company!) where the roles are hard to recruit for. That’s where companies tend to trade off on flexibility/being remote. The odd ‘general’ kind of admin roles that tick those boxes (that are genuine, lots of scammers out there too) have thousands of applications.
