New job concerns!

I was laid off of a job. It was not done in the most ethical of ways but in the end was glad to get out! My main aim was to get a job with similar if not bigger salary which I did - big tick for me! New jobs has started off ok and they seem super nice. I have been contracted out to a big company for a limited amount of time (full time) which I was initially delighted with and supposed to prioritise the activities there. However they are expecting me to work on projects they give me as well which is proving difficult to find time. I was given a colleague to mentor but recently found out she’d been on a PIP and their manager was trying to force her out of the job. They decided to resign and as I was talking to her about her challenges we were cut off. Seems after their resignation they were cut off from the work systems which seems a bit petty when they had notice to serve. My mentee also said in the dept I’m in, in the time they’d been there they’d seen 8 people come and go suddenly so all of this is setting off alarm bells given my recent experience in my previous role. I am constantly headhunted due to my line of work so wondering if I should be looking for something else. It’s a really small company and it has felt a bit of a demotion. I was delighted with the full time role at the company I’ve been contracted out but I’ve been given all the jobs that no one wants to do and is really admin and not the desired type of work I was after. I will give it more time but I am concerned it’s not my dream role! And also of course I’ve been there such a short time but if I’m expected to do the full time role and their work on the side - will they think I’m unable to do the role, especially with the information I’d been given recently by mentee? WWYD?

How long have you been in the new job? What’s there notice period. Are you in a probation period? You don’t know the mentor full circumstances so not sure why you think this is a red flag she might be bitter than she left the company so don’t get too caught up in work politics unless there’s other reasons you think different job would be better. Even though you say you are constantly headhunted regularly changing jobs doesn’t look great on the cv.

Good questions

Not the same situation but when I gave my notice I did say I would work it but when I went into the office they said I could leave immeadiately I was taken off work system as it was financial. Are you sure this person didn’t leave immediately hence removal of the access but was paid the correct notice? Otherwise surely it wouldn’t make sense to ask someone to work notice but they are unable to if they cannot do the work because management removed their access.
