Ive worked in nhs for years, recently started a new role within a different trust 3 months ago (no gaps in service). i am on a 6 month probation period. i have 2 questions:

  1. i currently work 3 days per week. i have a condition which falls under Equality Act that my employment are unaware of. It wpuld help loads with my condition if i cpuld work 1 day from home. Can i request wfh 1 day if im still on probation period? if so how do i go about it?
  1. I have recently applied for a full time vacancy internally in a hope if offered the role they will be flexible with working office days and home working. will requesting what is in question 1 ruin my chances of getting this full time vacancy as the line manager will be same person? would it be best to wait to find out if i am successful before making any wfh requests?

Applying for flexible working is a day one right so as a reasonable adjustment you’re fine to ask now. BUT. You know your manager better than anyone online. Are they likely to be supportive?

If not then you may want to wait until after the full time vacancy is resolved. But it doesn’t bode well for the future support.

I would always advocate for being up front about what you need/want your working arrangements to be as soon as possible. They may well (reasonably) say that during probation you need additional supervision and can’t wfh yet but can afterwards.

Attitude towards wfh varies trust by trust.
