Consultation/pregnant

Hi all, hoping someone can give some advice/been in a similar position!

I only found out on Monday I am pregnant with my second child (I think only 5 weeks) and today got told I am at risk of redundancy and a consultation period has begun. Only me and another lady at risk and just one job role for us both to interview!

Should I tell work I am pregnant now during consultation (one month) and will this give me better protection? Or would it not be worth mentioning.

This is UK.

Thank you in advance!

The law recently changed to extend protection to pregnant employees...this may or may not be at the forefront of your employer/HRs minds depending on how often they go through redundancy consultations and how alive to this they are. I think it would be worth letting them know sooner rather than later...and even possibly gently reminding them of this extended protection.

You won’t have the protection unless they know you’re pregnant. It doesn’t stop you from being made redundant of course, but you’d have the right to automatically take any suitable alternative vacancy, if there is one, at the point your role is confirmed to be redundant.

So yes, I would tell them.
