Taking the next step in my career.

I'm currently in a junior role in the marketing and communications industry. I've been in my role for 2 years now and I think it's time to take the next step and move up the ladder, but I'm honestly scared.

I feel like I'm not experienced enough to take on a "bigger" title in a new place. I've been for a few interviews and never been offered a job but was told by one that I was the second choice, only someone scored higher than I did.

Any advice for a junior looking to build more skills and knowledge?

Talk to your current manager about taking on some development projects.

Identify the skills you want to learn and who in the team has them. See if you can do some tasks alongside them to pick up those skills.

Basically stretch your current role so that you are more competitive when you go for an interview next time. Or you might even be ready for a promotion where you currently are!

Are there any qualifications you don’t yet have, that might improve your competitiveness or lead you to greater specialisation?

That’s probably the quickest way to zoom up the ladder. Might your employer sponsor any further study or training?
