How stupid are some people

Hi everyone

I am a full time cleaner in several offices and I love my job and the office staff.
Yet there is this one idiot where I work. She is not the boss, she is just an office worker, and she gives me feedback all the time, and tells me if I have overlooked something.

This is fine

But today she confronted me in front of the warehouse where all workers work. In front of everyone, who I get on with and have a banter with!

It was so embarrassing! I went red in the face! but she made stuff up too!

She said that "standards need to be made, and that I needed to dust, hoover and empty the bins of the meeting room" even thought i do this once a week, and empty the bins daily!

and that the CEO of the company has had "a paddy" that there were no glasses and cups in the meeting room (even though I have worked there for 6 years and never had a complaint before about it! How am I supposed to know that that was my job to restock?) I was told by one of my other bosses that I shouldn't be doing this as it's seen as "mothering"

Anyway that isn't the issue, how dare she confront me and say "they are standards" in front of staff who I get on with.
who is she?
she isn't the boss

The warehouse workers were giving my dirty looks! and I haven't done anything wrong! In fact I have made their building better by deep cleaning and getting all the mud out of their filthy floors!

I am just advising everyone that no matter what job you have, have respect for yourself! Everyone is important and shouldn't put up with this behaviour. Just because a worker wants to feel good and act superior - well she isn't, she is an office worker and I could do her job in a heartbeat. I just choose to be a cleaner because I don't like office politics.

I wrote an email to my cleaning company saying I will not put up with this unprofessional behaviour and either sort it out or sack me.

Don't put up with unprofessional co workers people! A job isn't worth it. If dicks can't behave then you are better off on benefits, cause it isn't worth your mental health, find another job.

Why are you letting a random person who has nothing to do with your job speak to you like that? Go to HR and complain. Seems like bullying if you’re the only one she’s doing it with.

Gem2J · 25/06/2025 22:18

I mean I don't mind feedback, I am sure everyone is not perfect at the job. But she could have has a private conversation instead! what a waste of life the stupid fat person is using up. I mean i think that she shouldn't have sweets and cake on her desk, but I am being polite by not saying anythin lol

Getting personal about her weight - isnt professional either. Talk to your boss and HR about what she did. But don;t stoop to her level.

Lavendersong · 25/06/2025 22:22

No office staff should be speaking to cleaners in that way ever
Make a formal complaint
Her manager and HR will be in your side

Lavendersong · 25/06/2025 22:23

Her behaviour is completely unacceptable because it’s not her role to speak to you about anything

let alone bully you in front of other staff

Dandelionlawn · 25/06/2025 22:24

If she isn't your line manager, she shouldn't be saying anything. Go to HR and complain. Sometimes you get people who have ideas above their station.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 25/06/2025 22:25

Also, it's racist to use the expression "a paddy".

I’m Irish and don’t have an issue with someone saying “a paddy”.

It’s a public forum the op can say what she likes really, she isn’t at work telling people that it’s on MN.

fruitbrewhaha · 25/06/2025 22:30

Just speak to your line manager. Ask for a review. Are they happy with your work? And can they go over your job role to ensure you know everything that is expected from you, ie are you responsible for restocking the glasses in the meeting room. Then tell your manager this person is bullying you. There no reason she should be raising what she considers to be issues with you.

How is it racist? I’ve heard of this saying and don’t understand the implication of racism.

Since when????

LSTMS30555 · 25/06/2025 22:55

Are you the housekeeper or cleaner?
Theres a difference but you’ve been there 6 years and never had to do stock or replenish meeting rooms so I assume cleaner.

Shes trying to pass responsibilities on to you, do not let her and tell her to get on with her job & you’ll get on with yours without her interference.

gamerchick · 25/06/2025 22:56

It's not your job. Your job is to maintain the building, not pick up after the staff or even wash a cup, never mind restock glasses and cups.

Tell this person that they need to feedback to your company, not to you as you don't answer to her.

And yeah we don't use to 'have a paddy these days". People have had their arses handed to them on here more than once

The OP doesn't work for the company, she works for the cleaning firm that has the contract there. So she can't go to HR, she can only go to her own employer, and she's done that already.

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 25/06/2025 23:01

A couple of people are telling the OP off for using the word 'paddy' but she has put it in quotes and is relating what someone else said. Which is fair enough.

Yes, that's true.

Kimwestonhelpless · 26/06/2025 00:08

Unfortunately some people do treat cleaners like dirt and that definitely shouldn't happen.speak with your line manager get a detailed job description and put a formal complaint in to HR.
I worked pt as a cleaner, one person would put paper clips under their phone to try and catch us out when dusting so they could report if it was still there..how could you be bothered.
Also anything goes missing the finger of suspicion is always pointed at the cleaners.

Ah, you’ve lost any sympathy you may have had with this post.

blythet · 21/02/2026 18:56

i think she sounds very direscpectful and rude, I don’t necessarily think she sounds stupid.

you also say she’s “just” and office worker and not a CEO. As if that makes a difference. No human should be that disrespectful to another, particularly in public, regardless of who they are. Including the CEO
