Flexible working after maternity leave

I am currently on mat leave and want to return to work either 3 or 4 days. I have quite a senior role so I’m not sure how my job could be done in 3 days but they are quite a flexible company. A lot of people in the company work 4 days so I know this wouldn’t be an issue but I don’t want to end up doing my full time job in 5 days for less money hence thinking of requesting 3 days.

anyone have experience of doing 3 or 4 days in work and how was it?

The slope to working full time when working four days officially is very slippery, in my experience. Three days is better, because your part time-ness feels more clearly defined, somehow…

I went to 3 days after mat leave and found this a great work life balance when kids were little.
Another part timer took my 2 days so cover still provided across the week. I’d go for that if you can afford it.

I agree with you on the pitfalls of 4 days. It’s not enough of a reduction to part time and many people end up trying to do full time work for part time pay. With 3 days they actually have to provide another person for the rest of the work

I work 5 in 4 because colleagues who'd gone back on 4 days told me they just did the full job for less money and constantly felt behind
