LSA role - please tell me your experiences

There is an LSA vacancy at the primary school I've been volunteering in (2-3 times a week) but an LSA has warned me to think carefully about applying as it's mentally draining and that I might be better off holding off until my DC (1 secondary, 2 primary age) are a bit older, but I'm wondering is there ever going to be a perfect age?

I'd just like to know LSA's experiences / advice please to hopefully give myself a broader view, although I know each school will vary.
I worked as an LSA 25 years ago and am aware that it's a very different job now!

Thank you

I haven’t got any LSA experience - will you miss out on primary assemblies, sports day etc.. for your two at primary school or would you be able to get time off to attend these events - that would be my most pressing concern. Otherwise I would say go for it you are in a strong position if you already volunteer at the school and you have previous experience. If it doesn't work out you can always leave. Like you say there is no perfect age. I would also be wary of the other LSA telling you to hold off. Surely you already have an idea of the mental load. Does she have a friend applying for the role I wonder!

@isitme111 ooo maybe, good point!

I don't think it's a given at this school that you would always be able to attend special events like assemblies which is why I've held off from applying previously when I've seen jobs going there.
I'm maybe fixating (too much) on it being the right time though because I'm unfortunately a serial over thinker!

I'm starting an internal lsa role next month,I've worked in a special school for 2 years as lunchtime and have been supplying in classrooms. My 2 children are both at secondary and my husband is self employed recently so this opportunity arose. Fingers 🤞🏻 I think if it feels right for you and your family,go for it,everything will settle in to place if it's right. Good luck!
