Anyone ever found a nice job through an employment agency

I've been looking for a job for a couple of months. I've applied for a few but have had no luck, a couple of interviews, which were unsuccessful, the roles went to stronger candidates. I'm considering approaching an employment agency. I did this years back and felt they were a bit pushy putting me forward for stuff I wasn't interested in with the expectation that I would attend any interview. Not sure I can be bothered with all this again at 50, there's not many opportunities out there so thinking maybe I could give it a try. I'm not currently working and it's admin type roles I'm after. Has anyone had any positive experiences recently with employment agencies ?

As in recruitment agencies? Yes I've found several jobs through recruitment agencies. Good ones are very helpful.

DH found most recent job within weeks and had multiple offers because of recruitment agencies.

It depends what industry you work in as many specialise in certain types of roles and these can be invaluable.

I've also had success with a temping agency in the past when I was unexpectedly made redundant. They found me a temporary job working evenings at a large company within three days. I applied for a full time role there too and within a few weeks had a full time job again. It was in an industry I would never have applied for myself but I actually really enjoyed it.

I stayed in that job for a year, it wasn't the most exciting job but I had some great colleagues and it gave me some vital experience. I then moved elsewhere within the same sector. Still working in the same industry now almost a decade on and ironically now work with many of my favourite colleagues from my original role (one of them is even now my boss). I'm super glad I applied for that temping job!

Using linked in and having it up to date with a solid profile is the best way to connect with recruiters looking for candidates like you. They have already had a chance to "vet you" from your profile. And sometimes a job that doesn't seem like one that would interest you turns out to be something better than you thought.

Best of luck with your search.

Never. I always found them awful.

I work in the third sector and the agencies that deal with that particular area are useless when it comes to permanent contracts.

Ive always had a job within days of going to an agency. They've been great for me.

Thanks for the replies. Some mixed views. I guess I'm concerned I might be railroaded into something I don't want to do but I guess I just need to be firm with my boundaries.
