What are my rights?

Restructure at work and my team is being combined with another but under one manager as opposed to currently 2. Myself and other manager have other options open to us in the same role but looking after different team along with few others, there’s essentially 5 roles and 4 managers. We get to preference what we want if no one else wants it we get job slotted if someone else does we interview to determine who’s the best fit.
Have over 30 years service in this company and worked my arse off but seem to always get shit end of the stick and the new team offers no further seniority nor financial reward but a hell of a lot more work. So I’m looking at my options - there’s also some other roles in the same grade which I’m more than qualified to do in another team and I’m thinking of asking if there’s a possibility of being allowed to be slotted into those and wondered if anyone has had similar experiences and knows what rights I may have if any or if they have any advice I could use to help leverage what’s best for me?

I think your difficulty is 5 roles and 4 existing manager’s. Theoretically there is a job at the right grade which is either the same or very close to your current role so it’s about allocating roles.

The way to try to secure a different role is to start by talking (don’t email) with the right people. You need to be subtle and try to find out if there are potentially vacancies. For example if they had 3 roles but 5 people, it’s unlikely you will have a chance. If there will be more jobs than people then get the JD and write a business focused request on why you would be a good fit for the role.

Thank you for the advise, I have asked for full details of options and JD’s. Will wait to hear as the whole of senior leadership team are now on an away day then most on leave so not likely going to get answers anytime soon.
