Hi all, thanks in advance for your time. I'm looking for some advice if possible.

I've been working as a HCA for the past 10 years in General Nursing and I've been offered a job on a Rebab Unit in a Medium Secure Mental Health Hospital. (Service users are preparing for life back in the community.)

I'm just wondering if anyone with any experience in Mental Health nursing will be able to provide an insight into what tasks I could be expected do to daily?

Is rehab a relatively safe area to work in for a female? What is the likelihood of being assalted? ect? I'm just trying to work out how safe I'll be in the role.

Thanks in advance :)

I have and it was very enjoyable, these people are generally stable and working towards discharge so are stable without many risks most of the time. Not gonna say there weren’t times when people were restrained or the risk escalated but it wasn’t a daily occurrence

Thank you so much for your response. Are you able to shed some light on what daily tasks I may be expected to do? Currently I make beds every morning, serve meals, take vital signs ect. Is it the same kind of thing? 🙂

The same tasks as you’ve stated. but also talking to people, doing activities Such as crafts or games. Taking them out to places in the community and helping them to budget and prepare shopping lists. I recall going to bingo, the gym, cafes, the beach, shopping for clothes.

Thank you so much for your insightful response. I feel much more confident about the role now 🙂
