Is AI just a hype?

It seems like everything now has AI, washing machine has AI. Is it just a hype and a buzz word now? It is not a hype then why aren’t governments more worried about AI and the potential of mass job losses?

It's not just hype. But the term AI has encompassed all sorts of things that are not actually AI and is being incorrectly used a lot of the time. For example, a washing machine may have some predefined AI-like logic, based on sensor inputs - but it's not true machine learning.

The government is slow and full of really old people who have no sense of how powerful this technology really is. And tech always moves so much faster than regulation. They should be worried - especially for young people. I work in a company where a lot of junior engineers, once promoted, are not being replaced by a human, but by AI. The change is happening already and I fear that it's going to be much more detrimental than just job losses.
