Have you experienced the same?

After twenty odd years as a teacher I was made redundant six months ago. I’m mid 50s and despite 10 interviews I can’t get another job. I get super feedback but lose out to younger candidates, a former colleague or internals. Before it was easy to get a job! Not so now. I’m thinking of giving up teaching, a job I love. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who’d faced the same and finally got work or who is still trying? Any advice?

This was a state school?

I was made redundant but found a job a week later. I am in my 50s but experience is respected as my field is very wide! Having to fake a little to make it but in my 50s I feel like I want to retire! Of course I cannot! Can you do supply in interim? I think making sure you’ve not been idle is the best course of action. Or can you do something related to education and policy given your vast experience?

Could you do supply teaching?

My friend is a teacher and a similar age to you and she has been doing supply work by choice for the past few years.

She does not want to tie herself to a school again with the level of bullying and poor pupil behaviour...
