Perimenopause & ADHD & work issues

Hi MN,
I started a new job 6 months ago (completely different role to my previous one which I was at for over 8 years)
I wanted a new role, a new challenge.
Initially all fine, new things to learn & felt I was doing ok, but here are the issues.

I rarely get feedback & have had one 1:1 with my manager in 6 months.
in my previous role had a lot of support/feedback & encouragement to do training/take in new responsibilities. None of that here & I basically feel like I’m rubbish ALL the TIME.

Also my adhd is being exacerbated by the fact I’m perimenopausal as well & am so, so anxious about my performance, am also extra scatty & feeling like the most rubbish employee.

Feel so anxious & unhappy every Sunday & just don’t want to go to work tomorrow.
….anyone else in a similar boat?

Hey @WizardofCoz not great you feel like this 😒
move had so many rubbish bosses I empathise

are you on meds for your adhd?
if not, what do you usually take/do so that you focus?

did new boss actually implied that you’re rubbish or is it what you think as people/manager might not be as lovely

would it be possible for you to just focus on the task and not think about others’ opinions /feelings ? Are you fully aware of how to carry out the work or you need support ?

x

Thanks for the comments :)
@BrentfordForeveri am on meds & they help me focus, @RoseofRosesmy last job didn’t know about my adhd, recently diagnosed, and didn’t share my diagnosis with them.
Was a bigger, more friendly place to work (mostly women & v supportive in general)

I feel trapped & just…. Inadequate!
…was also (not being big-headed) pretty good at my previous job & others ‘looked up’ to me (I was told)
Here I just feel like a pain !!!

I can relate to this.
I've always had great jobs over 37 years.
I went somewhere where the women decided to not speak to me.
Treated me like an alien and gossiped about me.
I applied for an ADHD assessment and found out last week I have Hyperactive type.Im 58.
I think we need reassurance as our self esteem is low.
I have dreadful RSD.
Would it be worth asking for feedback if it is not given.?

I have now found a more inclusive workplace and I although there have been communication issues I hope my diagnosis helps my colleague understand.

Why don’t you suggest regular (weekly or biweekly) 1:1s with your manager, and ask him for feedback if it is lacking? That’s pretty standard, you shouldn’t be kept in the dark. Those feeling are something that a lot of people have, you’re not alone, and can be managed with actions and discussions with your manager and colleagues.

Have you spoken to your GP about HRT?
