Working bank holidays

I work in retail where we open on bank holidays, the staff who work Mondays are expected to work every bank holiday as that is their day in but the staff who don’t work Monday don’t work any bank holidays. Is this normal in retail or should there be a rota for working bank holidays?

I work in retail and am contracted to work Mondays, so have to work on the bank holidays. I can book holiday for these days, and depending on if anyone else wants to book it off I may or may not have this approved. We do get extra pay for working then though. I’d say it’s quite normal and would be unusual to get other staff who are not contracted for monadys to work them.

It was normal when I worked retail.

We had a rota and everyone needed to work 2 bank holidays plus Xmas or NY. For the ones you didn't work you would need to take annual leave.

When I worked in retail I had a weekend and bank holiday contract so had to work them all, except from whatever my annual leave allowance was. Those that worked Monday- Friday didn’t work bank holidays unless they were asked and got overtime/ toil.
